Reading is at the heart of St Clare’s. Our teachers are fantastic role models for reading and  model the necessary skills needed when reading aloud to their class.

We have a Love of Reading session daily in every class at the end of every day. All children in school spend the final fifteen minutes of the day listening to their teacher read aloud from a class novel/story book. Children in lower school listen to a story book linked to topic/child led choice or a book with a particular message. Year One to Year Six use both picture books and chapter books. For our children who struggle to access more complicated text, this is a great way to support them with enjoying books at their interest level and get them excited about new and exciting authors.

Our parents fully understand the importance of reading with their child at home and they understand that reading is the gateway to the rest of the curriculum.
