Inclusion Quality Mark

Our SEND Vision

At St Clare’s Catholic Primary School, we believe that every child is unique, valued and deserving of the very best opportunities. Our vision is that every child can enjoy, achieve and celebrate their learning, with Christ at the centre of all that we do.

We have high aspirations for all our children and are committed to ensuring that children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) are fully included in every aspect of school life.

We believe that every child has the right to an inclusive education which enables them to develop their individual strengths, talents and potential. We recognise that children may need different approaches, adaptations and support to help them access learning and achieve success.

We believe that every teacher is a teacher of SEND and that meeting the needs of children with SEND is the responsibility of everyone within our school community.

We aim to support children with SEND to:

  • Achieve their full potential
  • Develop confidence, independence and resilience
  • Enjoy and celebrate their learning
  • Develop positive relationships and a strong sense of belonging
  • Become confident and motivated lifelong learners
  • Make successful transitions throughout their education

INTENT

Our SEND Provision

At St Clare’s, we are committed to providing an inclusive, broad and balanced education for every child. We celebrate the individuality of our pupils and work hard to identify and remove barriers which may prevent children from accessing learning or participating fully in school life.

We aim to identify additional needs as early as possible and respond through high-quality teaching, appropriate adaptations and timely intervention.

We recognise that every child is different. Our provision is therefore carefully considered and tailored to the individual needs of each child. We focus on developing the whole child, including their academic, social, emotional, physical and communication needs.

We want children with SEND to recognise their own strengths and develop the confidence and independence they need to become successful learners.

We work closely with parents and carers, recognising that they know their child best. Their views and knowledge are an important part of understanding a child’s needs and planning appropriate support.

As part of the Nicholas Postgate Catholic Academy Trust (NPCAT), we also work collaboratively with colleagues across the Trust, sharing expertise and good practice to support our children.

IMPLEMENTATION

A Graduated Approach to SEND

At St Clare’s, we follow a graduated approach to identifying and responding to children’s individual needs.

High-quality teaching is at the heart of our SEND provision. Class teachers continually assess children’s progress and adapt their teaching to ensure that pupils can access learning and make progress from their individual starting points.

Where a child requires additional support, teachers work closely with our SENDCO and other members of staff to identify appropriate strategies and provision.

This may include:

  • Adaptations to teaching and learning
  • Scaffolding and additional modelling
  • Differentiated resources and activities
  • Additional opportunities to practise and consolidate learning
  • Targeted intervention
  • Support with communication and language
  • Support with social, emotional and mental health needs
  • Pastoral support
  • Advice and support from specialist services and external professionals

Provision is regularly reviewed to ensure that it continues to meet the changing needs of the child.

Early Identification and Intervention

We recognise the importance of identifying additional needs as early as possible.

Through ongoing assessment, observation and communication with families, we aim to identify emerging needs and respond promptly.

Where children require additional support, we aim to put appropriate strategies and interventions in place as soon as possible. Our approach is focused on removing barriers to learning and helping children to develop the skills, knowledge and confidence they need to become increasingly independent.

Working in Partnership with Parents and Carers

At St Clare’s, we believe that strong relationships with parents and carers are central to effective SEND provision.

We value the knowledge and expertise that families bring and recognise that parents and carers know their children best.

We encourage open and honest communication and work together with families to understand children’s strengths, needs and aspirations.

Parents and carers are involved in discussions about their child’s support and progress, ensuring that we work together to achieve the best possible outcomes for each child.

Inclusion

We are committed to ensuring that children with SEND are fully included in the life of our school.

Inclusion means more than simply being present in school. It means that every child feels that they belong, are valued, listened to and respected.

We support children to participate in learning, friendships, play, enrichment opportunities and the wider life of our school.

We consider the whole child and recognise that children may need support with different aspects of their development, including:

  • Learning and cognition
  • Communication and language
  • Social and emotional development
  • Mental health and wellbeing
  • Physical and sensory needs
  • Relationships and friendships
  • Independence and confidence

Where appropriate, we work with specialist professionals and families to ensure that children receive the support they need.

Supporting Transitions

We understand that transitions can be particularly important for children with SEND.

We work with children, families and staff to make transitions as positive and successful as possible. This includes transitions into school, between year groups and classes, and onto the next stage of a child’s education.

Where a child requires additional support, we plan individual transition arrangements to help them feel safe, secure and confident.

IMPACT

At St Clare’s, we want every child to feel happy, safe, valued and included.

We want our children with SEND to know that they are an important part of our school family and that their individual strengths and differences are celebrated.

Through our SEND provision, we aim for children to:

  • Feel safe, happy and valued
  • Develop a strong sense of belonging
  • Have their individual needs recognised and supported
  • Make progress from their individual starting points
  • Develop confidence, independence and resilience
  • Recognise and celebrate their achievements
  • Develop positive relationships with adults and peers
  • Access a broad and balanced curriculum
  • Become increasingly independent learners
  • Develop the skills they need for the next stage of their education

We want our children to enjoy, achieve and celebrate their learning, knowing that they are valued members of the St Clare’s community.

Our parents and carers feel listened to, supported and involved in decisions about their child’s education.

Our staff have high aspirations for every child and work together to identify and remove barriers to learning.

Through early identification, high-quality teaching, appropriate intervention and partnership working, we aim to ensure that children receive the right support at the right time.

Above all, our SEND provision is built upon strong relationships between children, families, staff and professionals.

At St Clare’s, we strive to ensure that every child knows that they are valued, respected, loved and able to achieve their potential.

Every child. Every opportunity. Every potential.

These two boys have made a great start to this months optional project. Make a local landmark out of anything: Lego, boxes, art work. The possibilities are endless. Try and get your parents or even your grandparents involved.
