New Starters – FAQs

  • New Starters - FAQs
  • Induction Information
  • Transition Information

There is a lot of information to process when your child starts a new part of their learning journey. Please find below some frequently asked questions and answers. If you have any other queries, please do not hesitate to contact school.

When will my child start?

Nursery  – You will be contacted when a place becomes available for your child. If a place is available, children will be able to start their Nursery journey at St Clare’s the term after they are three years old (e.g. if your child turns 3 in September, a place would not be offered until January).

Please be advised that the above information is subject to availability at the time of your child turning three. The start date can be delayed if no places are available.

Reception – Our Reception children start school the September after they turn four.

Will I automatically get a school place?

A place in our Nursery does not automatically guarantee a place in our school Reception class. All parents/carers are contacted by the Local Authority to apply for a school place. For more information, please see your Local Authority school admissions page. For other information on St Clare’s admission policy, please see the policy section on our website.

When should I put an application in?

Nursery – It is never too early to put an application form in. Applications can be downloaded from the school website or collected in person from the school office. Applications can be handed in in person or via email to: [email protected].

Reception – Applications for Primary School places are open between November and January (confirmed dates will be released by the Local Authority). Reception places require you to complete a Catholic supplementary information form. This form is to be handed into the school office.

How do I apply for a 30 hour place?

Nursery – When completing your child’s application form, please indicate that you have a preference for a thirty hour place. An offer of a thirty hour place is subject to availability. To see if you qualify for a thirty hour place, please visit gov.uk for more information.

Are there any entry requirements?

Nursery- for baptised Catholics we would need a copy of your child’s baptismal certificate with a copy of your council tax bill. For non-Catholic entries, just a copy of your council tax bill.

Can I visit the school before my child starts?

Yes to arrange a visit, please contact the school – phone: 01642 815412 or email: [email protected]

Will I meet the staff before my child starts?

You will be invited to an induction meeting before your child starts Nursery/Reception. This will give you the opportunity to meet staff and explore the EYFS setting. More information about the school will be provided at this session.

Does my child need a school uniform?

Children are required to wear uniform in both Nursery and Reception. Please see the School Uniform Policy in the Policies section of the school website for further information.
