Peat Rigg

It has been a very busy first half term especially with our fantastic visit to Peat Rigg. The children had a wonderful time taking part in a range of exciting and daring outdoor activities including zip lining, abseiling, bush craft and climbing Jacob’s ladder. Every single child showed superb resilience, bravery and determination!

Autumn 1

This term our topic is World War II. We will be learning about the significant events of the war including the Blitz, child evacuation and propaganda. Children have taken part in debates discussing whether child evacuation was the right thing to do and also they will be writing newspaper articles about the declaration of war. Our book focus this term is Goodnight Mr Tom which follows the life of a young boy who has been evacuated to a small town with a slightly grumpy and unwelcoming Mr Tom. We have produced some wonderful artwork inspired by the book and developed our tone and shading techniques to add effects.

In Maths this term,  Year 6 will be consolidating all prior knowledge and developing our reasoning and problem solving skills. To support your child’s mental mathematical abilities and speed, a range of interactive programmes are available for the children to use at home:

Hit the Button, Timestables Rockstars and Maths Whizz.

We have also introduced the mental maths goals which are at the back of your child’s reading recording to help improve their mental mathematics.

If anyone has forgotten their login please pop in and see us and a reminder can be sent home.

PE this term will be taking place on a Monday and Thursday. Year 6 are very lucky to be receiving wheelchair basketball lessons from a professional coach especially with the recent success in the Paralympic Games 2021. On a Thursday, Year 6 have been developing their tag rugby skills in preparation for the upcoming sporting competitions later in the year provided by NPCAT. We have really missed our competitive sport!!
